Allison’s report on Sylvie

I heard from Allison, who, with Max, adopted Sylvie on Saturday. It’s wonderful to hear good news of my kitties! Allison says, “Sylvie’s been settling in well. She didn’t seem nervous at all when she got home and spent the whole first day exploring every inch of our apartment. Since then, she’s happy to just hang out near us. She’s such a sweet, loving girl and Max and I are so happy to have her!”

Pics of Coda and Jett (formerly Smoke)

I heard from Coda and Jett’s new family today! Thanks, Lisa, for sending such a lovely report – and photos!

Lisa said, “Hard to believe the kittens have only been here a week, they feel like part of the family. They are currently sleeping next to me on the bed, [picture below]. The last few days they have been seeking the girls out more as well, joining us downstairs for parts of stories and bedtime. The girls are totally enamored and doing a great job taking care and learning how to play. They are amazing cats and a great fit for our family, so glad we could connect to bring them here.”

Awww.

Sylvie goes to her new home!

I’m so happy to report that Sylvie has been chosen by a lovely young couple, and they took her home today.

Sylvie has so much love to give, and she is off on her new life-long adventure with Allison and Max!

You’re a special kitty, Sylvie, so gentle and so fierce. You’ve ridden on my shoulders and bitten my toes, you have no fear of the vacuum or cats twice your size. You fought back from illness while raising four wonderful kittens. Small but mighty. Live long and prosper, little one!

Sylvie is finally at full health, and playing hard to make up for time lost to illness. It’s so great to see her full of energy and enjoying life!

New home for Tex!

What is sad news for one set of people can be good news for another. When Tex came back, I contacted the couple who had expressed interest in him earlier, and they were delighted to find that he was available after all. They came and met him, and returned to pick him up today.

I’ve had a report that he is eating and exploring his new home, and making a hit with his new people. I hope for photos!

My last photo of Tex, stretched out in his “pet me” pose. I will miss and always remember my special Tex boy.

Return of Tex

In a sad turn of events, Tex came back to us today. His people loved him, which makes it deeply sad that they couldn’t keep him. The problem was that Tex woke up full of energy and wanting to play – at 4 AM. This was no problem here, because he was outside the bedrooms, but in an apartment – different story. When you can’t sleep a full night, life quickly becomes miserable.

Tex has always LOVED his tunnel. Titus and Sophia discovered that he loved it even more if you put it over the scratching post. They donated all Tex’s things when they brought Tex back, so here he is demonstrating this at my house.

Thank you, Titus and Sophia, for making the sensible decision for Tex, even though it was heartbreaking for you. We wish you all the best, and hope that someday you find a different furry someone to share your lives with.

Coda and Smoke have a new home!

Coda and Smoke (new name Jett) left for their new adventure this morning. They are going to a family not far away from me – with two young girls to love on them furever! I think it’s a purrfect fit!

Update: I’ve had a report that Coda and Jett are starting to get used to their new home. Coda has warmed up to the humans very quickly, while Jett has been a little more cautious. That fits with their personalities pretty well. I’m looking forward to pics and will share them when they come.

Tex has a new home!

Tex has just left on his new adventure! He has found a wonderful new home with Titus and Sophia! They are going to be a terrific family together and I’m so happy for them.

Man, I’m going to miss Tex. Super-sized personality, with energy to spare, and so affectionate. Fair well, my good boi!

The desperate struggle to get enough food – not

Tex and Coda – uncle and nephew – had an intense battle over food this morning. Tex and Sylvie get grownup food as well as the kitten/adult food everyone gets. Coda wants in. It takes some effort to get to where Tex is, but Coda is determined.

Once he overcomes the obstacles to get there, he finds Tex equally determined to eat it all himself. According to cat rules, if your head is down in the bowl, it’s yours. If you’re determined, you keep your head down – and the incoming kitten doesn’t have much of a chance.

BUT Coda is even more determined. He has developed an interesting and effective technique for getting his turn at the bowl. He uses his head for thinking instead of just shoving – and uses his paw. Sometimes he just pulls the bowl towards himself, but the really effective method is to push down on the near edge, which flips the back edge up into Tex’s face and gets his face out of the bowl. Success!

The primal battle over food. Coda brings an intellectual approach that’s quite successful!

I’m not sure how this will read, so just in case: please note that the tone of this post is tongue-in-cheek. Both kitties are well-fed and the “battle” was quite amicable.

Two kittens to furever homes!

It’s always a bittersweet day when kitties are adopted and move to their new homes! The transition will be stressful for them at first, and I’ll sure miss them – but a happy home is the ultimate dream we’ve been hoping for all along.

Today the dream came true for Mia and Gemma (now Jordi). In these COVID days, all meetings have been virtual, so neither adopter had met her kitten in person. The kittens are twelve weeks old this week, but that’s still very young, so the first impression is how tiny they are! They weigh about 2.5 pounds now – definitely still pocket-sized!

Alice came first, to pick up her new kitten, Mia. Alice was – of course – smitten by the adorableness. Mia is a very cute kitten. Thank you, Alice, for sending pics! I’m glad Mia has you.

Soon Erica came to bring Gemma to her new home. Gemma will now be called Jordi, and Erica has sent me pics of her exploring her new home and toys.

I’m so happy for everyone! The kittens have both found loving people who will give them homes and love and care forever. And they’re terrific little kitties who will return all the love and lighten the lives of their people. Congratulations to all!

The cool place to be

Turns out the bathtub is the “cool” place to hang out on a very warm afternoon – in more ways than one! The little bench is Tex’s favorite spot, above the fray, but he’s close enough to supervise – or dive in if it looks interesting. Who knew bathtubs could be so appealing to kittens? But it’s been true for all our foster kittens.
