The kittens saw solid food for the first time today. Almost everyone was curious, but only one decided it was edible. Not just edible but delicious! Patches loved it. I finally had to take it away from her, because I didn’t want her to eat more than a few bites. I said, “Don’t overload your system with something new!” But she was not impressed with my logic, and kept looking for more.
I heard about someone who fed her kittens a different food at every feeding. The result was robust kittens with no digestive issues. It goes against conventional wisdom that you should never change a cat’s food suddenly; you should always transition gradually. Maybe that’s true of adult cats – and maybe it’s true of cats who haven’t had a variety when they were little. I’m going to try it, because it makes sense. Kittens in the wild eat whatever mom catches, and there must be some variation.
