Our current foster kitties are all available for adoption! We have four kittens almost 4 months old and ready to bring joy to your house, one boy and three girls. We also have two adult females: Pallas (their mom), and her buddy MK Fisher. Both adults are quite young, likely between 2 and 4 years.

These kitties all have strong social bonds and should be adopted in pairs or more. Mix and match! Two kittens could be adopted, two adults, or an adult and a kitten. All get along well. They’re also open to new friends, so one could go solo if you have a young cat who could be a new friend.

Lovie & Jester’s new home

Lovie and Jester went to a new home just over a week ago, and I’m so happy for them! Their new person, Minsu, is a first-time pet owner, but he has the best instinct of all – he listens to them. We’ve been fostering Lovie and Jester since November, and they have come such a long way! They came from a farm and had no people experience; Jester in particular was very frightened. But we respected their boundaries and gradually gained their trust through treats and playtime (so important!), until we started to reveal Jester’s inner lap cat. But they are cautious with new people, and will need patience to continue the process.

Minsu spent quite a few hours here, over a couple of weeks, to get to know them, and for them to get to know him. He has sent reports and pictures – thank you, Minsu! – and the reports are good. They’re starting to love their new home with him!

Update: MK Fisher

MK Fisher has a new foster life with Pallas and her kittens. She lived in a big popup in their room for several weeks, got to know them, and really wanted to join the kittens! It was hard for her to be so close to them but not be able to take care of them. But Pallas and kittens were struggling with giardia, and we didn’t want MK to be exposed to that. As soon as they were over their health issues, though, she got her wish to live with the kittens! MK Fisher loves the kittens. She grooms them, snuggles with them, and plays with them.

MK Fisher and Pallas share the food dish, but Pallas is 100% the boss.

She is the best auntie, and yet at times she seems to get a bit rough – bite too hard. I never worried too much, though, because Pallas is always on the job. Her protective instincts are never “off,” and she is 100% the boss in that room. And over several weeks, MK and Pallas have been forming a great friendship.

Lovie and Jester are ready to love a forever person

We love Lovie and Jester – but they’re ready to bond with their forever person! They are an oddly mismatched pair of probably siblings – or at least half-siblings. Superficially they are so different: long-haired floof Lovie has a thick, beautiful tail that she arches over her back like a squirrel when she’s happy. Jester is the classic-plus version of a tuxedo cat – short hair, black and white, with the bonus of adorable face markings.

Beyond the surface they continue the differences. Lovie is a sweetheart. So is Jester, but Lovie is inclined to be trusting and would love to warm up to and snuggle with a human, whereas Jester started out suspicious and initially quite frightened. Over time that has changed to almost a game.

We’ve watched these two grow from half-grown kittens to full adults, and they are ready for a forever home. It has taken patience and lots of Churu treats, but they are both realizing their potential as warm, friendly, people-oriented kitties. Lovie is always eager for interactions with the humans. Jester is now responding to pets and will sit in my lap for Churu treats and pets. They are both super playful and a joy to be around.

The are ready to transfer all the trust they’ve learned to a new person, and have a new home where they really belong.

Lovie and Jester meet PhotoRoom

PhotoRoom is an app that is way too much fun. You can upload a photo, it drops the background in seconds, and then you can export it, or add one of the many backgrounds it provides. I had some fun with it in April, and here are the results on photos of Lovie – surrounded magically by succulents, and Jester – reclining with tulips.

Pallas and her kittens: first month

Pallas was rescued from a farm, and was pregnant when she came here on April 13. On April 30 she gave birth to four little tabbies.

She was a sweet and snuggly kitty when she came. Even though she hadn’t had much experience with people, she loved to cuddle and to be brushed. But, interestingly, as she got closer to her birthing date, she got more and more defensive and suspicious of us. She was clearly conflicted, as hormones argued with her own nature. She would want you to pet her, and then start to glare at you. We’ve had protective moms before, but Pallas is in a class by herself. It got quite scary! You could see her instincts prompting her to not trust, and yet she really wanted to bask in the attention. It was a confusing time for her, and for us! The instincts started winning, and she did actually jump at George a couple of times. We felt like lion tamers when we went in to feed her! She’s shown here in the friendly phase.

She had her kittens in the corner, the “Jiro Palace,” and we shut the gates and left her alone. Feeding her was a challenge, and I’m afraid she didn’t get her litter box cleaned very often. She was more suspicious of George than me, so I put food and water in for her. With new kittens she was always hungry (although she always had dry food), so that helped – she would focus on the food instead of attacking me. A couple of times I stepped over the gate and peeked at the kittens, but she raised them without my help for the first three weeks.

I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. Challenging for us – but so hard for her too! She was so conflicted and didn’t know what to believe. Eventually, after a couple of weeks, I could pet her head again – but only if she was eating.

Her kittens here are three days old. I had to distract her with one hand long enough to take the photo with my other hand.

Welcome MK Fisher

MK Fisher is a lovely, sweet kitty who is a classic tabby and also bit of a mystery. What I know about her is that she had kittens who died for unknown reasons. She loves kittens. Currently she is living in a small popup in the same room as Pallas and her four kittens, and MK Fisher would love to come out and be with the kittens. I don’t have a good photo of her because she doesn’t like to come out of her cave when I’m in the room – unless the kittens are near. If the kittens are out she will come out and chirp to them.

Updates, May 2023

And suddenly it’s almost half-way through 2023. Wow. So much has happened since my last post, with, among other things, 20 foster cats here in a “temporary” situation that became something of a nightmare and went on far too long.

Here’s a quick synopsis, the highlights, just to bring us to today.

Leo and Snow were adopted, and – last I heard – they were reveling in their new person and their new home and new lives. So happy for them!

We’re now down to 8 foster cats. Still too many, but it’s manageable. We have:

  • Lovie and Jester
  • Pallas and her four kittens
  • MK Fisher

I’ll be featuring each of them in coming posts!

Leo and Snow listed for adoption!

Leo and Snow are a lovable and affectionate brother and sister duo who are now officially listed, ready for adoption. They are sweet and gentle kitties just under 2 years old. As you can see, they are black and white – and an impressively snowy white – with cute pink noses.

They both love to explore and are super playful. They are agile, and Leo especially is so flexible! Snow is smaller, very trim, and goes after a toy like a streak of greased lightening.

They are very trusting by nature, but their world was upended when their person had to move and couldn’t take them. Leo is a little slower to trust new people, but he is a lap kitty and a snuggler once he knows you. After the scary experiences in Snow’s life, she is still pretty sure people mean well, but she waits under the bed until she’s positive. Then she’s all about attention and loves to be in your lap.
